The Waldo County Trails Coalition includes six organizations, five of which currently manage hiking trails in the region between Unity and Frye Mountain. The trail system will enhance local recreational opportunities, community wellness, transportation, and economic opportunities. The path may be built to accommodate bicycles in some sections, depending on the interests of the landowners and the community and the suitability of the terrain. The town was first settled in 1782 and named Twenty-five Mile Pond, but was later incorporated as "Unity" in 1804 due to the towns' political "unity" as Democrats.
